The shear pump adopts a set of mechanical seal for no leakage at stuffing box. Inside

pump is a series stainless steel turbine containing nozzles, four scoops and shear plate.

Fifty percent of the fluid is sheared twice each time through the pump. This turbine shear

pump is mounted on a special base with belts and sheaves to drive pump, belt guard and

a explosion proof U/L approved electric motor. Included is a special hopper with nozzle

sized for this application and one mud kit as a package in order to build a complete shear

and hydration system. The pump is designed to give longer service life through the improved shaft seal.

Working Principle of Drilling Mud Desander

Mud desander is the second solid control equipment used in solids control system. It is used to separate the solid phase particles with the diameter from 46 to 76 mm. Drilling mud desander has the main structure, 8″, 10″and 12″hydrocyclones, and high pressure flow pipes. Desander hydrocyclones are important parts. They provide efficient and reliable separation of sand and solids from produced water, condensate and gas stream. The size and type of hydrocyclone selected is dependent on the process fluids, temperature, pressure and the concentration and type of solids present in the liquid stream.

What is the work principle of hydrocyclone? Affected by the centrifugal force, the heavy solids in the fluids would be thrown to the inner wall of the cones, down to the bottom, and discharged through the sand discharge port. The diameter of the bottom discharge port is adjustable, and with a cover of hydrocyclone. In order to ensure the normal work of drilling mud desander and oilfield desilter, it is necessary to check their working condition regularly, and replace them with new ones.

Operating Principle of Drilling Mud Agitator

Mud agitator/mixer can be used widely in various applications. Including drilling mud mixture, chemical agitating, food or beverage, etc. It will be mounted on mud tanks or set right over mud pit. The mud agitator will help mix subject with powerful rate.Drilling mud agitator is a part of mud recycling system. It is designed for mixing mud and avoiding the drilling cuttings deposit on the bottom of drilling fluid tank . Its main function is to make the drilling fluid solid particles in suspension.

Mud agitator composed by explosion-proof motor, reducer, engine base and impeller components four parts. The motor and the speed reducer, reducer and the impeller shaft are connected through rigid coupling. Impeller consists of four blades welding formed. The impeller can make the mixing liquid to produce the vortex motion, thereby enhancing the mixing effect. Caught in the middle of the blade tray can also prevent downtime mud particles deposited on the lower leaves around, such use can reduce the starting resistance torque of sediment on the blade, thereby avoiding overload and burnout motor .

Operating Principles
The impeller can strengthen the stirring effect by making vortex of the drilling fluid. The tray installed between the leaf blades can prevent the deposition of the solid particles when the machine stopped, thereby, to reduce the moment of resistance inflicted by the sediment to the impellers when restart the equipment, therefore, to avoid burnout of the machine.

The drill has holding tanks and a collection of solids-removal equipment

In drilling operation,drilling mud was pumped from the mud tank into standpipe by

high-pressure mud pump. Under the huge pressure, the mud went into the rotary hose 

and down through the bottom of the hole. Here mud clean the cuttings and takes them 

back to the surface through annulus. At surface, the drill has holding tanks and a collection

 of solids-removal equipment for removing the cuttings. Before it returned to the suction pit 

it would have passed over a shale shaker to get large cuttings removed,and in later the

How to choose right drilling mud solids control equipment?

Screen surface: Usually,larger contact area screen will have better treating capacity,the more screen surface area you have means more volume that you can clean.So the vavy screen is better than plan screen;the larger area plan screen is better than small area plan screen.

Screen selection: Mesh size of screens is measured by the number of holes per square inch on the screen. Different mesh sizes control the size of the cuttings that you want to remove. The same mesh size will not work in all drilling conditions. Sizes will vary depending on the size of the cuttings and the type of formations you are cleaning.

Usually,the if the mud is water basic,and the slurry density is 1.2g/cm³,viscosity 45s,the screen size should be 40mesh for drilling mud shale shaker; 120-150mesh screen for mud cleaner.

Mud gun in Drilling Oil Rig System

The mud gun also can be called Mud mixing gun. It is usually used along with mud agitator as mixer for oil rig system.

Mud gun is consisted by main construction by steel pipe and flange, the valves including high pressure or low pressure and the rotary.

And the different oil rigs have different mud system, such as different on treating capacity, different on mud tank cap acity, difference on mud properties, ect. Then mud guns should hold relative height, etc.


The mud gun is simple in design or structure. Usually all turning takes place on double rows of steel balls in flame hardened races. There is nothing to tighten or adjust. Flow is unrestricted and pressure drop is minimum.

Mud gun types

1. Divided by pressure: there will be high pressure and normal pressure;

2. Divided by rotary type: there will be with manual rotary or fixed type;

3. Divided by diameter: there will be NJQ50 and NJQ80;

4. Divided by nozzle number: there will be single one and triple one, etc;

5. Divided by valves: there will be gate valve type and butterfly valves type.

Drilling Mud Solids Control System

Solids control is a technique used in a drilling rig to separate the solids in the drilling fluids that are crushed by the drill bits and carried out of the well surface. Normally, a solids control system contains five stages: the mud tank, oilfield drilling shale shakervacuum degasserdesanderdesilter, and centrifuge. The shale shaker is used to separate big solids with diameter above 76μm, the desander addresses solids from 47-76μm, and the desilter segregates solids between 12-47μm. Sometimes the desander and desilter are combined as one high efficiency mud cleaner. When air enters the drilling fluids, a vacuum degasser is used to separate the air. If no air is found in the mud, the degasser would work as a big agitator. All these stages are mounted on the top of the mud tank. After separating the solids, the clean mud can be pumped into the borehole again.

Shale shaker, hydrocyclones and oilfield decanter centrifuge are three essential solids control equipment in the process of drilling, play very important roles in solids control if reasonably combined, can use chemical flocculation mud to make solids control more effective in order to ensure the safety, high quality and fast drilling mud performance.
